Transport to Levi's Gran Fondo
Wondering who is registered for the Gran Fondo, and whether anybody is carpooling up.
I have only one space to offer. as I'm limited in bike capacity.
I figure the timeline will be something like this;
5.30am Pick up other in SF
5.45am Leave SF
7am Arrive Santa Rosa
8am Start time.
Keith
P.S. Just curious; is anybody staying overnight in a shared house for the Friday night?
I'm going, and will also be looking to carpool. I'll take your proffered spot if it's still available... (Thanks!)
+1 on the Friday night curiosity, too.
I will also be looking for a ride up, morning of. Timeline above seems reasonable.
Bruce
I'm going and I can take at least one bike + rider. Is anyone staying up there Friday and/or Saturday nights? It might be a bit late at this point to book something...
Derek
Derek,
I will take you up on the ride offer. I have not heard much about who else is going besides the four of us who have posted here.
Bruce
Sounds good, Bruce. What's your email? We can coordinate the timing.
Derek
The more I think about this, the more I think it makes sense to drive up on Friday and stay up there.
We might as well be fresh for the ride, and not spend an additional 3 hours in a car at the weekend.
Julian Bull mentioned a while ago that he may have a spot free in his hotel room, but otherwise, it does look like Motel 6 has availability for $66/room/night.
So I'm doing this ride as well. I never done one of these organized rides and Valko was telling me last night at M2 that there's plenty of food and drink available? Does anyone know if they also provide tubes/pump? What else should a n00b like me know about this?
Ditto to all Appel's questions. Do I carry my usual Bonk's and GU's? Guess it can't hurt.
From memory last year, its pretty well supported with aid stations for food and drink, you can prob get away with starting with just 2 normal bottles and some bars / gels.
Suspect they do not provide tubes / pump.. you should take that with you.
See you on the start line.. might be rockin the DZ Nuts kit and on my Ritchey Breakaway so will keep an eye out for the Mission Crew.
I can recommend pushing to the front on the start... last year it was great fun riding fast in the big front group until it hit the bottom of King Ridge.
Cheers,
Alex.
Don't forget to sign up for the Strava GranFondo event guys!
Mental note for next year: do NOT take ANY food or drinks with you at the start. I was blown away by how much refreshments there was available for us. I might even ride with this thing next time...
Ha! Great point, though I will always bring my own because I know what works for me. Just a different school of thought, I guess :).
Now if only they could be as generous with the port-o-potties as they were with the food and drink it would be perfect (although then I wouldn't be able to fool myself that my time would have been better if I had not spent as much time waiting in line)!
Really?!? I stopped twice, at 44 miles and at 75 and both times there was absolutely no line to the bathroom. I guess it had to do with waves of people, but they had more P-o-Ps on the course than any organized ride I've done this year.
