The Chasing Daylight Tour returns to California! To kick off this year’s Tour the team is opening up the first day of an 8 day journey to San Diego and inviting all Bay Area cyclists to participate as a rider or volunteer for a one-day fully supported ride & race from San Francisco to Pescadero on October 10, 2010.Two routes will be supported:

  • The first option begins just past the famed Golden Gate Bridge and then heads for the coast covering 55 miles of the scenic northern California shore ending in Pescadero, CA.
  • The second option, for those wanting to put their skills to the test, is the annual Chasing Daylight Race - a 100 mile Century course that will take you along the coast and climbing 7,000 feet through the San Mateo redwood mountains and meadows…considered the jewel of the Amgen Tour of California.  Top finishers of this race will receive prizes, and bragging rights.

Whether you choose to ride the short course or challenge yourself to the 100 mile route, the scenery will be breathtaking.

The day will be fully supported. Rest stops with food and drinks will be provided along the route as well as a dinner in Pescadero to celebrate our accomplishment. Bus transportation back to the city will also be available free of charge!

The Chasing Daylight Tour cycles in memory of Eugene (Gene) O’Kelly to raise awareness and funds to support the efforts of LIVESTRONG. Gene was the U.S. chairman of KPMG when in the fall of 2005 his life was cut short by brain cancer. Gene, whose career began in San Francisco, was an inspiration to our firm and his community. In his final days, Gene wrote a book entitled “Chasing Daylight,” which reflects on his last moments and life lessons and which is the inspiration for the Tour’s name.

Registration for cyclists is $100 which will be used as a donation to support LIVESTRONG. Registration fees are waived for volunteers.

Please support this event and register as a cyclist or volunteer.  Contact Tim Whittler attwhittler@kpmg.com for registration and questions.

We look forward to seeing you on October 10!
